Weddings, Baptisms and Funerals
Here at chalice we recognise the power of ritual to create space and honour significant events.
We are passionate about working with you to craft meaningful services around those moments in your lives of great joy, celebration and sadness.
Weddings
This marriage be wine and halvah, honey dissolving in milk
This marriage be the leaves and fruit of a date tree
This marriage be women laughing together for days on end
This marriage, a sign for us to study. This marriage, beauty.
This marriage, a moon in a light blue sky.
This marriage, this silence fully mixed with spirit
- By Rumi
With magnificent acoustics, the richness of its pipe organ and the dappled light of sun through its stained glass windows, Northcote Uniting Church provides a warm and inviting place to celebrate your wedding. Several meetings with the minister are arranged in advance of the wedding day to ensure that the service speaks about the essence of who you are as a couple and what this day means to you and your community.

Baptisms and Naming Ceremony’s
You have come to us as a small child,
but you have brought us the greatest of all gifts,
the gift of eternal love
Caress us with Your tiny hands,
embrace us with Your tiny arms
and pierce our hearts with Your soft, sweet cries.
- St. Bernard of Clairvaux (1090-1153

Funerals
Stop all the clocks
Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone,
Prevent the dog from barking with a juicy bone,
Silence the pianos and with muffled drum
Bring out the coffin, let the mourners come.
Let aeroplanes circle moaning overhead
Scribbling on the sky the message He Is Dead,
Put crepe bows round the white necks of the public doves,
Let the traffic policemen wear black cotton gloves.
He was my North, my South, my East and West,
My working week and my Sunday rest,
My noon, my midnight, my talk, my song;
I thought that love would last for ever: I was wrong.
The stars are not wanted now: put out every one;
Pack up the moon and dismantle the sun;
Pour away the ocean and sweep up the wood.
For nothing now can ever come to any good.
- W. H. Auden
